Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard

Can you drink with all the colors of the wine? Yup, I sure can.

Having heard great things about this place (and more importantly, being right down the road from it at the Riverhead Ciderhouse), I was super excited to stop in for a taste. When you’re headed out East from the West, this would be your first Vineyard along Sound Ave. and given that during the season, the traffic is a nightmare, you might be tempted to stop here and forgo the rest of your journey…it’s not a bad idea! In addition to a plentiful variety of in-house wines, they also offer local craft beers and ciders. We opted for the 6 tastings for $16, and as you can see, between my husband and I, we like Rose and Red. Since this wasn’t our first stop of the day, we didn’t go too crazy with additional drinks after enjoying each of our tastes, but made sure to take a few bottles for the road.

They offer an excellent deal where with 4 bottles, you receive 20% off…I enjoy savings, so obviously we walked out with 4 bottles (and a very nice partitioned wine tote that can carry 6 bottles without the glass clinking!) The Merlot Rose, Pink Satin, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Red Velvet all will make for excellent reminders of our quickie visit.

Small tasting room divided into 3 spaces. Two bars, 3 seating areas and space for the live music. They also offer snacks that you’d expect…cheeses, and such, so nothing earth shattering there. There is a large outdoor space that looks like would be quite delightful in not February. Then there is the main attraction (as if the wine weren’t it!) Baiting Hollow FARM Vineyard is the name….and they rescue horses! Since is was so cold, there was only 2 brave horses out in the paddock when we were there, but the barn and grounds hold promise that many more are accommodated and were likely keeping warm inside. You can purchase wines whose profits go directly towards the horse rescue efforts.

All in all, I would like to re-visit in nicer weather to get the full measure of this quaint farm vineyard…but while I wait for it to warm up, I’ll just sip my wines πŸ™‚
